I’m already behind in my New Years Resolutions but I’m trying not to feel too bad about it. This month so far has been a month of reflection. We got back from Texas and the following weekend my brother and his fiancé came to visit from San Francisco. That was really nice because I hadn’t seen my brother since I graduated college, a year and a half ago.
While they were visiting I arranged for a photo shoot of the family. Ever since working at the portrait studio, I have been thinking about how I wish I had more photos of my own family. Leading up to the shoot it was mildly stressful planning but it was worth it. Also, the last time we took professional photos as a family was when my brother was in his buzzed-head-puka-shell phase and I had glasses and just dressed badly.
Since I was the mastermind behind the photos I got to decide who shot them and I chose Ashley O’Dell Photography. She is a wedding photographer, which is actually one of the reasons I picked her. . I also loved her work and her and I know mutual wedding photographers. Additionally, I wanted someone who could approach family photos like a wedding – candid-heavy with a lot of movement.
Suffice it to say; I think the pictures came out great. They enable me to reflect on how lucky I am to have such a good family and despite the distance, family is family.
